Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Last updated: September 2026

At Future Tuition, the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person is a fundamental priority.

We recognise our responsibility to provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment in which students can learn and develop.

This policy applies to tuition delivered online and face-to-face.

1. Our commitment

Future Tuition is committed to:

  • Promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people

  • Treating every student with dignity and respect

  • Providing an environment in which students can learn safely

  • Taking concerns about a student's welfare seriously

  • Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns

  • Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

  • Working with parents, carers and relevant professionals where necessary

The Department for Education's safeguarding guidance specifically identifies private tuition as an out-of-school setting and provides guidance on safeguarding and child protection for tuition providers.

2. Professional boundaries

Future Tuition maintains appropriate professional boundaries between tutors and students.

Communication with students should be directly related to tuition and learning.

Where appropriate, communication with younger students will take place through, or with the knowledge of, their parent or carer.

Personal social-media contact between tutors and students is not appropriate.

3. Face-to-face tuition

Where tuition takes place in a student's home, the learning environment should be appropriate, safe and suitable for tuition.

Parents or carers are responsible for the home environment and should be present during tuition involving younger students.

4. Online tuition

Online lessons will be conducted using appropriate educational communication platforms.

Students should participate from an appropriate environment.

Parents/carers are encouraged to remain aware of their child's online tuition arrangements and to contact Future Tuition if they have any concerns.

5. Recognising concerns

Safeguarding concerns may relate to, for example:

  • Abuse or neglect

  • Bullying or serious harassment

  • Online safety

  • Exploitation

  • Domestic abuse

  • Radicalisation

  • Sexual abuse or inappropriate behaviour

  • A significant change in a student's behaviour or presentation

  • Concerns expressed directly by a student

A safeguarding concern does not require proof of abuse. Information that reasonably raises concern should be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

6. Responding to a concern

If a student shares a safeguarding concern, the tutor will:

  1. Listen calmly and take the student seriously.

  2. Avoid promising complete confidentiality.

  3. Avoid asking leading or unnecessary questions.

  4. Record the concern accurately and promptly.

  5. Consider what action is necessary to protect the student.

  6. Contact an appropriate parent/carer or safeguarding authority where appropriate.

  7. Contact emergency services where there is an immediate risk of serious harm.

Information will only be shared where there is an appropriate reason and legal basis to do so.

7. DBS and suitability

Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the DBS Online Update Service

All Future Tuition's tutors hold an Enhanced DBS check and take appropriate steps to maintain professional suitability for working with children and young people.
